The anti-CEO - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

The counter CEO - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Ricardo Semlers authority style astounds me since it is radical and viable simultaneously, as this amazing meeting Semler illustrates. My preferred piece of the piece is where he looks at Jack Welchs authority style. Welch is respected as the universes best pioneer in numerous circles, yet I for one observe numerous things amiss with the manner in which he has run GE. Ricardo does as well: The model that Jack Welch presents, in any case, has issues, mainly in its accentuation on appealling administration. This is genuine of Welch as well as of Lou Gerstner, Michael Eisner, and Roy Vagelos of Merck. Chiefs around the globe are attracted like a magnet to having the impact that Welch had. Yet, I dont think its to the greatest advantage of GE or any organization to have an exceptionally solid charming figure, in light of the fact that the ability to get progression going is decreased. When progression time moves around, the inquiry is, Should the association be sensitive to the Neutron Jack method of getting things done, or would it be advisable for it to be receptive to what GE should be in the new world? That is the issue with the Jack Welch worldview. My subsequent complaint has to do with a strategy for the executives that says, Heres what I need you to do, heres my vision-lock into it and youll be OK. Buckle down, convey, and youll endure, yet on the off chance that you dont cooperate, youre out of here. To my psyche, that is an arrangement of fear. That is actually what it is its decision by dread and its extraordinary to see that advanced pioneer are relinquishing that approach. A debt of gratitude is in order for visiting my blog. What Not to Say When Negotiating Salary

What Not to Say When Negotiating Salary What Not to Say When Negotiating Salary With regards to arranging pay, what you don't state can be as significant as what you do say. In case you're a poker fan, you're now acquainted with the wonder: The individual who flickers or sweats or in any case loses her levelheadedness will lose the hand. The equivalent could be said for an out of a pay exchange. To keep up your poker confront and get the compensation you merit, you have to rehearse the specialty of hushing up except if you have something critical to state. You will likely make some noise just when it's an ideal opportunity to manufacture your case-and not a second prior. This is genuine whether you're arranging a new position offer, attempting to get an increase in salary at your present place of employment, or making a counter offer. Make an arrangement, and practice your pitch so you'll be agreeable when it comes time to plunk down with the individual holding the handbag strings. There are likewise a couple of articulations that you ought to abstain from making. We sum up them here and afterward develop them underneath. Try not to Say I need more cash. I can't bear the cost of my costs. This is what I made at my last occupation. Do Say The compensation extend for my situation in this market is $Xâ€"$Y. I'm ready to take care of X issues, and individuals who can do that are worth $Y in the market. No, thank you to an offer that is excessively low. I Need More Money. Pay arrangements aren't about whether you need more cash, or even whether you merit more cash. They're about whether you can get more cash. This implies understanding the market and your place in it, and that utilizing that data for your potential benefit. PayScale's Salary Survey produces a free compensation report dependent on your aptitudes, training, work title, and area. Get the information, and you can put forth a defense for why you personally merit a raise. (Short form: you're ready to take care of X issues, and individuals who can do that are worth $Y in the market.) I Can't Afford My Expenses. Your costs, similar to the remainder of your own life, are your business and nobody else's - in particular, your chief's or the employing manager's. Oversharing won't get you more cash, yet it may likewise cost you your partner's regard, and that has an a lot heftier sticker price down the line than any botched chance for an increase in salary. Bringing individual subtleties into an arrangement tells the other individual a couple of things about you, and none of them great. For instance, you may uncover yourself as somebody who can't deal with their own financial plan, which will make a chief mull over placing you accountable for the organization's cash. Regardless of whether your own circumstance is no flaw of your own, exchanging TMI during a compensation arrangement shows that you don't have a decent feeling of expert limits, which may cause the manager to feel awkward working with you. This is what I Made at My Last Job. This is an intense one since businesses love to attempt to get planned recruits to share their compensation history. (In any event, where it's lawful. A few urban communities and states, including Philadelphia and Massachusetts, have established or are thinking about enactment that would make it illicit to get some information about their past compensation.) Your compensation history is immaterial. The business ought to set remuneration for the job dependent on the obligations that are associated with the activity, just as the capabilities expected to accomplish the work. They may likewise consider factors like market rivalry, pay-for-execution, and different things that would give them the most blast for their pay dollar. In any case, your past boss' remuneration plan (or deficiency in that department) shouldn't come into it. Further, in case you're female or simply beginning your vocation or both, you have awesome reasons not to share your pay history. It's truly conceivable that you were come up short on by past bosses, and felt constrained to take lowball offers since you didn't feel great arranging. On the off chance that an employing chief attempts to get you to give your pay history, you can turn the inquiry on its head by posing for the spending plan for the job. Bombing that, you can slow down by saying that you have to study the activity and its obligations before you'd have a smart thought about what's proper. In any case, whatever you do, abstain from naming your cost. One Final Note About Negotiation Non-verbal communication expresses stronger than words with regards to proficient associations, so notwithstanding ensuring you're stating the correct things, you need to pass on the correct message with your stance, articulations, and signals. You should seriously think about requesting that a companion assist you with doing a training meeting and shooting it, so you can perceive how you'll go over to employing supervisors during the meeting and exchange stages. Keep away from poor (or excessively tenacious) eye to eye connection, slouched stances, restless motions like picking at your garments or hair or tapping your feet, or anything that makes it seem as though you're apprehensive. Recall that you reserve a privilege to be paid properly for your work and that it's in your chief's and boss' eventual benefits to do as such. On the off chance that you can go into the meeting viewing the other individual as an arranging accomplice, rather than an enemy, it will be significantly simpler to unwind, grin, and put forth your defense.

I offer you the following trends that are on our radar, and welcome your comment. 6 HR Trends you can no longer ignore Network Recruiting Gone are the days of recruiting programs geared to “active” or “passive” candidates, where we relied upon job boards and head hunters, respectively. In today’s economy and hyper-connected society, everyone is fair target for recruitment. As the number of unfilled jobs continues to rise, employers are being forced to turn over every stone to find suitable talent. Fortunately, the fears of the 2008 recession are diminishing and people are now willing to move for the right opportunity. Recruiters will take advantage of this by leveraging their unprecedented access to qualified candidates through their company’s collective social media network. Someone, somewhere in your company, is networked to the perfect candidate. It’s just a matter of building a culture of team recruitment and leveraging technology to fuel it. Mobile Everything Mobile is moving from trend to expectation. It used to be a compelling feature to be a mobile-friendly application. Now it’s mission critical. Today’s workforce, and especially the job seeker, will engage primarily through a mobile device, whether it be to find a restaurant or to approve an expense report. If your HR systems aren’t mobile-friendly, from recruitment to onboarding, you’re invisible to a significant and growing part of the talent pool and put yourself at a competitive disadvantage. Contingent Workforce Both efficient and flexible, temporary labor is here to stay. In the past, temps have often been marginalized as a stop-gap solution to permanent employment. However, today’s most innovative businesses are now seeking to find the optimal balance between temp, contract, and permanent labor. There are several reasons for this. For one, health care benefits that were once a driver for permanent employment have subsided as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Furthermore, employers see contingent workers as a great way to build flexibility into their planning, allowing them to avoid lay-offs in down cycles while equipping them to ramp back just as easily. We’re also seeing highly skilled workers choosing contract work as a stepping stone to a permanent job â€" case in point, a recent American Staffing Association survey revealed that half of temp workers chose temp work as a way to a permanent job. By lowering the barrier to placement while giving employers and candidates an opportun ity to test out the “fit,” a contingent workforce strategy is a great way to fill key roles more quickly, while improving the quality of hire. Creative Recruiting In today’s tightening job market, today’s employers are turning to an intricate combination of methods to reach and engage talent. Current employees are more critical than ever to an employer’s brand, as they use social media and channels like Glassdoor to openly discuss their employers. For example, Zappos did away with job postings altogether, asking potential candidates to join an insider social network. Google put up a billboard in San Francisco with a math problem that, if solved correctly, brought highly-skilled mathematicians to a unique recruiting site. Recruiters flock to events like SXSW (the music/film/interactive festival) to find creative, skilled college grads. In the tightening job market, creative recruiting is going to be a key differentiator to land top talent. Data Security Customer data security took center stage last year, with high profile security breaches at big brands like Target and Home Depot. It was only a matter of time before employee data would become headlines. When Sony Pictures was hacked in December 2014, the data included personal information about Sony employees and their families, e-mails between employees, and a plethora of other business sensitive information. Not only did this create significant identity fraud risk for the affected employees and brand damage to Sony, but it also drew class action lawsuits claiming negligence in how Sony Pictures protected personal information. PII (Personal Identifiable Information) including Social Security Numbers, Dates of Birth, Driver’s License info, and other identifying information must be protected at any cost. HR professionals will turn to technology providers to control and encrypt sensitive business and employee information, and leverage tight access and security controls to lock PII d own from internal and external threats. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} Cultural Fit vs. Direct Experience Cultural fit isn’t just on the wish-list for HR. It is taking priority. Cultural fit leads to stronger employee engagement, collaboration, productivity, and ultimately retention. This translates directly to employee satisfaction, which fuels the customer brand, which creates a competitive advantage when hiring the next culture fit! And so the snowball grows. Furthermore, a willingness to trade direct experience for cultural fit and career potential creates a distinct advantage in the war for talent. You can teach skill â€" but you can’t teach culture. Just be sure to thoroughly assess your company’s culture and values before you attempt to recruit based on it. 2015 will be a huge year of change for HR. As always, change brings opportunity to those who adapt, and peril to those who don’t. We wish you luck!

5 Resume Tips for Veterans Starting a Civilian Job Search ePropelr

5 Resume Tips for Veterans Starting a Civilian Job Search ePropelr 5 Resume Tips for Veterans Starting a Civilian Job Search We talk to a lot of amazing men and women who have recently separated from the military and many struggle with translating military experience into terms employers and hiring managers will understand. How you market yourself on your resume is so important! It’s critical that you know how to break down the skills and training you’ve had in the military and paint a picture of the value you can add to an organization.  We’ve created a short list of suggestions to help you do just that! Here are 5 tips to help you market your military experience to employers:  1. Less is MoreWhen we say “less is more” we mean that literally: use fewer words. Recruiters and hiring managers spend seconds looking at a resume and you want to make it easy for them. This means not hiding your core skills among lots of wordy text. It won’t be read. Streamline your resume as much as possible. 1-page and 2-page resumes are ideal; very few people should have a 3-page resume.2. Avoid Using Military Term sWe know that certain words are ingrained in your brain, but you want to be careful about peppering your resume with military jargon. If you worked on a certain system or managed a military-specific project, try to explain your responsibilities in words that a civilian would understand.3. Make Core Skills Marketable and ObviousTake a step back and think about your core skillsâ€"make a list. Subjective terms like “responsible,” “reliable”, “trustworthy,” and “goal oriented” won’t get you hired. Results and hard skills will get you hired so focus on measurable, tangible skills. Examples can include project management, data analysis, leadership, computer skills, and customer/client management. 4. Use Bullet Points Formatting makes such a difference! Keep your resume simple, straightforward, and easy to read. Bullet points are a great way to highlight your core strengths and help a hiring manager quickly tell what you can do. Instead of a paragraph at the top that outl ines your background and goals, we recommend a bulleted overview of your marketable skills. Your work experience will outline your background and your goal is always the same: to get their attention. 5. Find a Civilian ProofreaderOnce you’ve updated your resume and feel that it reflects what you can do, enlist the help of a civilian outside of your immediate circle. Ask this person to read your resume to see if they can easily understand your strengths and value as an employee. If they have questions or are confused by what you’ve said, there is a strong chance someone from human resources will be too.

How to distinguish a psychopath from a shy-chopath

The most effective method to recognize a mental case from a 'bashful chopath' The most effective method to recognize a mental case from a 'timid chopath' What makes a criminal a psychopath?Their shocking deeds and directing nearness stand out for us â€" look no farther than Ted Bundy, the subject of an ongoing Netflix narrative, and religion pioneers like Charles Manson.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders' magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more! But in spite of long stretches of estimating and research, the psychological well-being field proceeds to fervently discuss what are the characterizing highlights of this conclusion. It may come as an unexpected that the most broadly utilized mental analytic framework in the U.S., the DSM-5, does exclude psychopathy as a formal disorder. As a character analyst and measurable clinician, I've spent the last 25 year considering maniacs inside and outside of detainment facilities. I've additionally discussed what, precisely, are the characterizing highlights of psychopathy. Most concur that maniacs are callous individuals who need comp assion for other people. In any case, as of late, a lot of this discussion has fixated on the pertinence of one specific character characteristic: boldness.I'm in the camp that accepts intensity is basic to isolating out maniacs from the more unremarkable offenders. The characteristic makes the facade of regularity, giving the individuals who go after others the veil to effectively mix in with the remainder of society. To need intensity, then again, is to be what one may call a modest chopath. The strength factorAbout 10 years back, analyst Christopher Patrick and a portion of his partners distributed a broad writing survey in which they contended that insane people were individuals who communicated raised degrees of three essential characteristics: ugliness, disinhibition and boldness. Most specialists in the psychological well-being field by and large concur that the prototypical maniac is somebody who is both mean and, in any event somewhat, disinhibited â€" however there's even so me discussion about precisely how rash and hot-headed the prototypical mental case really is.In a mental setting, individuals who are mean will in general need sympathy and have little enthusiasm for close passionate connections. They're likewise glad to utilize and misuse others for their very own gain.Highly disinhibited individuals have poor drive control, are inclined to weariness and experience issues overseeing feelings â€" especially negative ones, similar to disappointment and hostility. In adding intensity to the blend, Patrick and his partners contended that certified sociopaths are not simply mean and disinhibited, they're additionally people who are ready, brave, sincerely flexible and socially dominant.Although it had not been the focal point of broad research for as far back as hardly any decades, the idea of the strong insane person isn't in reality new. Popular therapist Hervey Cleckley depicted it in his fundamental 1941 book, The Mask of Sanity, where he portrayed v arious case instances of mental cases who were shameless, valiant and sincerely unflappable.Ted Bundy is a phenomenal case of such an individual. He was a long way from unassuming and shy. He never showed up wracked with tension or passionate trouble. He enchanted scores of casualties, certainly filled in as his own lawyer and even proposed to his better half while in court. It's most likely simply being happy to face challenge, Bundy stated, in the Netflix narrative, of what roused his violations. Or on the other hand maybe not in any event, seeing danger. Simply defeat by that intensity and want to achieve a specific thing.Seeds planted in the DSMIn the current DSM, the nearest present determination to psychopathy is withdrawn character issue. Despite the fact that the manual proposes that it truly has been alluded to as psychopathy, the present seven indicative rules for introverted character issue for the most part fall under the umbrella of disinhibition â€" characteristics like wildness, imprudence and, to a lesser degree, ugliness, which are obvious in just two standards: absence of regret and deceitfulness. There's no notice of strength. At the end of the day, you don't need to be striking to have standoffish character issue. Truth be told, in light of the fact that you just need to meet three of the seven rules to be determined to have the turmoil, it implies you don't should be such mean, either. However, the latest amendment to the DSM, the fifth version, included a supplemental area for proposed analyze needing further study. In this supplemental segment, another specifier was offered for the individuals who meet the conclusion for solitary character issue. On the off chance that you have a striking and valiant relational style that appears to fill in as a cover for your in any case mean and disinhibited character, you may likewise be diagnosable as a psychopath. Can an insane person be meek?Whether this new model, which appears to put strength all impo rtant focal point in the conclusion of psychopathy, eventually will be embraced into ensuing cycles of the DSM framework stays to be seen.Several analysts have scrutinized the idea. They consider ugliness to be disinhibition as considerably more significant than intensity when choosing whether somebody is a psychopath.Their principle issue is by all accounts that individuals who are strong â€" however not mean or disinhibited â€" really appear to be composed and not especially fierce. Truth be told, contrasted and being excessively contemplative or inclined to passionate trouble, it is by all accounts a benefit in ordinary life.Other analysts, myself notwithstanding, will in general view those reactions as not especially convincing. In our view, somebody who is basically disinhibited and mean â€" however not strong â€" would not have the option to pull off the terrific degree of control that an insane person is skilled of.To be certain, being mean and disinhibited is an awful blend. In any case, missing strength, you're presumably not going to appear on the nightly news for having conspired scores of financial specialists out of a huge number of dollars. The odds that you'll effectively enchant clueless casualty subsequent to clueless casualty into returning to your condo to explicitly attack them appear to be pretty slim. That being stated, meek however mean individuals â€" the shycho-ways â€" in all likelihood do exist, and it's presumably best to avoid them, too.But you're probably not going to mistake them for the Ted Bundys and Charles Mansons of the world.John Edens, Professor of Psychology, Texas AM University This article is republished from The Conversation under a Creative Commons permit. Pokemon Go The Candidate-Catching Cliche For Recruiters

Pokemon Go The Candidate-Catching Cliche For Recruiters Wow, this Pokemon Go thing has really taken off, hasnt it? I  totally get its appeal, and although Im not yet addicted to the game myself, I genuinely feel for those who are. For ambitious people, theres nothing worse than being  surrounded by opportunities, unable to react. I can imagine its terribly frustrating having your phone sat next to you at work, silently begging you to pick it up and have a play. Time and place, time and place. In these trying times, I bet youre having to  exercise the most self control youve ever known. Your  self-talk is no doubt getting more intense as the days go by. No, you tell yourself quietly, I must  resist the  temptation to shoot virtual balls at animated characters that appear to be near to me and real, but actually  dont exist. I must focus on my job  like the adult I must keep  pretending to be. For years you ignored all advice to take lunch breaks. Nowadays, thanks to Nintendos nostalgic comeback,  the clock strikes twelve and youre out the door, albeit eyes still buried in a screen. Hey, at least youre up and moving. If  only  there was a way to channel this determination and commitment into your recruitment activity. Youd be the most determined recruiter on the scene, catching candidates left, right and centre, at all hours of the day. *Sigh*. Let me Poke-stop you right there. If youve  been struggling to find the  Wigglytuff and Jigglypuff your clients urgently needing, your struggle ends here.  Watch out candidates, youre all  about to be  caught. Its time to turn your Pokemon Go obsession into recruitment gold! Forget about all your other priorities Thats right, you read correctly.  Clear your agenda, cross off all those other important tasks and turn on your tunnel vision. Just like you do when youre playing Pokemon Go, you need to focus 100% of your energy on the task at hand; catching great candidates. Stop at nothing Its easy to spot you when youre  playing Pokemon Go in the street. You  have that  characteristic  sway going on; your footwork is irregular and youre intently staring at your  phone. Youre completely unaware of your surroundings, and you will dart dangerously  out into the middle of the road to to catch Charmander even if it means almost causing a huge crash.  Thats the kind of commitment Im talking about! Size up the competition Make sure you know who else is out there playing the same field. You need to know who youre up against, how good they are and what their strategy is. When youre playing  Pokemon Go, you dont let the guy next to you catch  the  Squirtle youve been eyeing off, so why would you let another recruitment consultant swoop in and steal your candidate right before your eyes?  Go hard or go home. Its time to mark your territory. Hone cat-like reflexes What have we learnt about speed from Pokemon Go? You snooze, you lose. You need to be quick to move, and be at the ready at any given moment. Let nothing or no one sneak up on you. Be prepared. Its no different when youre out catching candidates. If a new hot candidate uploads their CV on a job board, you need to be there.  If a great candidate updates their profile on LinkedIn, pounce! How can you help them? Heres how! Keep your eyes on the  prize Dont lose sight of the end goal. Sleep is for the weak. In Pokemon Go, if you close your eyes, you might miss the perfect Pidgey. When it comes to sourcing candidates, look all around you.  Sure, job boards and LinkedIn are obvious go-to places. The key is to make sure you really rinse your internal database for existing candidates and exhaust your own network too, asking for referrals and leads. Throw jobs  like theyre  pokeballs In Pokemon Go, you dont just throw one ball at the Metapod  and then  walk away when you miss, do you?  No! If you have your sights set on a star candidate, dont let them dodge your first attempt  at getting them on board. You need to commit to selling your clients vacancy, and not give up on the first failure. If it takes multiple messages, emails, calls to actually get a candidate  on the phone, then thats what youre going to have to do. If they dont want to apply for your urgent role, then at least offer them the chance to apply for another open vacancy youve got going. Its a numbers game, to some extent. Do these things, and your nickname will be  Top Biller before you know it. Happy candidate hunting!

Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom How to Increase Your Learning Agility

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom How to Increase Your Learning Agility An old manager once told me I had the ability to quickly assimilate information, that he could tell me how to do something and I would then apply that knowledge to a variety of different situations. I now see this feedback as the ultimate compliment, for my manager felt I had learning agility, and apparently, learning agility is critical to success. Learning agility is openness to information and the ability to gain and apply insights. People with this trait often follow a non-traditional path and are able to develop professionally from an array of diverse experiences. Learning agile people aren’t perturbed by shifts in direction. They are focused on the end state and are willing to put themselves out there. When they fall, they get back up. They take risks and often receive commensurate rewards. Consulting firm Green Peak Partners recently collaborated with researchers from Teachers College at Columbia University to assess the value that learning agile individuals bring to their organizations. Their study found that private equity-backed C-suite leaders who ranked high for learningagilityon an assessment test also outperformed less-agile peers as measured by revenue growth and “boss ratings” issued by their Boards. Learning Agility Can Be, Well, Learned As project team leaders or project managers, there is much you can do to foster learning agility in yourself and in your organization. Here are five tips from Green Peak Partners. Innovate: Repeatedly ask, “What else? What are 10 different ways I could approach this? What are several radical things I could try here?” You might not actually execute all the ideas you come up with, but you shouldn’t dismiss anything out of hand. Trust your intuition: Always look for a pattern. For instance, think through the similarities between current and past projects and the common thread that ties various aspects of your business together. Cultivate calm through meditation, and learn to listen before immediately reacting in a stressful situation. Become more reflective: Explore “what-ifs” and alternative histories for projects with which you’ve been involved. Never pass up and opportunity for genuine feedback, asking: “What are three or four things I could have done better?” Make sure the question is open-ended but specific so that you can take action on what you learn. Take more risks: Look for stretch assignments where success isn’t a given. These might involve new roles, new parts of the company, or new geographies. Learning and exploration, rather than positive business outcomes, should be the main goal. For the rest of the article, visit Intuits Fast Track blog.

How to Romance The Man (or Woman!) in Your Life

How to Romance The Man (or Woman!) in Your Life It’s very common for people to assume that romance is more for women in the relationship. It’s often portrayed that way in the media from famed novels to prolific movies on the big screen you find guys going above and beyond to sweep their ladies off their feet. While women are more emotional lovers than men, that doesn’t mean guys don’t like a little romance in their lives on occasion. But no matter the gender, if you want to switch things up in your love life, use these tips below to romance your significant other! Special Delivery Your guy might not be the type that enjoys receiving a bouquet of flowers, but there are tons of other things guys can get that make them feel just as special. Send him chocolate gifts like an assortment of gourmet chocolates with his favorite flavors in it and a simple note that lets him know he was on your mind. You can also have fresh fruit, a gift basket, a bottle of wine, or any other romantic gift delivered to his home or office. Bed in Breakfast Start your partner’s day off right with breakfast in bed. Get up extra early and prepare your guy’s favorite breakfast foods (or head to a nearby diner if you’re not the best chef). Place the food neatly on a plate and perhaps add a rose or a small note sealed with a kiss. As the saying goes, food is a way to a man’s heart, so waking up to a plate of delicious pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, or toast will really put a smile on his face. Massage There’s nothing like the rub of a loved one to take the stress and tension out of a day. When your guy gets home from work, create a relaxing environment for him to put his feet up and then give him a good massage. Allow him to unload about his day as you rub the stress away. You Plan the Date Is your guy always the one to come up with the plans for date night? If so, it’s time for you to switch things up a bit. Plan the date yourself. Try to choose something that speaks to his interests more than your own as it can go a long way. For example, you might get tickets to his favorite sports team event, go golfing, take him to a local bar, or treat him to his favorite restaurant. Ask him to go on a date with you and you take the lead (meaning you drive and pick up the bill). Plan a Vacation When is the last time the two of you had some alone time? Check your schedules and plan a surprise romantic getaway. It doesn’t have to be far or cost too much money to be special. Try to center the trip around the two of you incorporating things you both enjoy. If you can, score some perks by calling ahead and asking the hotel staff to set the room up really nice with candles and flower pedals. Flirty Messages You should never stop flirting with your partner. Flirting is a form of flattery that makes a person feel desired. This is essential to keeping the romance in your relationship. There’s nothing wrong with telling your guy how hot he looks or how much you desire them. Send a text message during the day, slip a note in their lunch, or announce it to the world on social media. Space During Sports Season This one might surprise you, but there’s nothing a man loves more than space and freedom to enjoy his favorite sports! It may not seem very romantic, but trust that he’ll fall in love with you. You can even take it a step further and make sure that his chair is ready, the snacks are on deck, and the beer is cold. You’ll go down as the best wife/girlfriend in history. It’s true that women love romance. They like to be wined and dined, have sweet nothings whispered in their ears, taken to nice places, and spend quality time with their guys. However, men too appreciate a little romance from you to them. Show your guy just how much you love him and make him fall in love all over again with a little romance.

The Kama Sutra of Business - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The Kama Sutra of Business - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Who knew that physical positions mattered so much when it comes to generating novel, useful and profitable business ideas? Your feet, your hands and your use of space directly impact your fluency (how many ideas you can generate), flexibility (the sheer number of ideas) and originality. In recent studies conducted at the University of Michigan and New York University, researchers demonstrated that your body guides your mind. Change your position, burst with creativity. Here’s the measurable evidence submitted by Suntae Kim, Jeffrey Sanchez-Burks and Evan Polman in the New York Times on Sunday. People walking around unrestricted while tasked to come up with original ideas for use of a common toy generated 25% more ideas than those who were forced to stay within a path marked by tape while doing the same assignment. People who were instructed to alternate between two hands as they came up with new ideas for a use of a building generated 50% more novel ideas versus people who were told to use one hand only . People sitting outside a cubicle came up with 20% more word associations (variations on the word “tape” for example, like worm or measure) than those sitting inside the cubicle. For a long time we’ve known that objects impacted your perception of the environment â€" especially those around you. Carrying a warm cup of tea will generate more “wow, these strangers sure seem warm and hospitable” thoughts than an holding a piece of ice. Now we know that where you are and what you are doing with your body can generate the billion dollar category busting innovations. Would you like your personal brand to be seen as abundant, effective and overflowing with effective solutions? Do this. Take a hike. Do a downward facing dog yoga move. Sit on the roof. Carry a lucky (fake) rabbit’s foot. Let the cubicle dwellers stare at their screens. Make your fortune. Want to be more creative without adding any expense to your budget? Welcome Peter! We look forward to your comments and interaction this week. How Many Likes Is Enough? Social networks are able to reflect how popular a brand is. For example, Twitter and Pinterest allow users to see how many followers they have while LinkedIn shows a user’s networking stance. On the other hand, Facebook shows how many “likes” users have; the more “likes” users have on their page the more popular they are. Quantity vs. Quality on Facebook “Likes” Getting a million likes is great, but not all brand pages have a million likes. In most cases, shooting that high continues to be a dream. However, a brand that does not have a million “likes” is not necessarily unpopular or unsuccessful and vice versa. So, how many “likes” are necessary for your brand? Is it a thousand? Or, is it ten thousand?   In truth, there isn’t a comfort zone to be reached by achieving a certain number of “likes”. We should never be satisfied with any particular number of “likes”, especially with an online presence that is constantly growing. There will always be more individuals out there who we need to persuade to click “like” to our brand page. One should consider the simple comparison of quality versus quantity. There are opportunities out there that allow you to purchase a “like” at a cost. Buying random Facebook “likes” is a conventional tool to boost visibility, but won’t benefit your brand in any “sharable” way. These “likes” are often inattentive and won’t provide any shareable content. In some ways, they can actually make your analytical tool calculations unreliable. So obtaining “like” through genuine interaction is the best and most practical method. [tweet this]. What is the quality of the “likes” that you have? How much interaction do you receive in comparison to your likes? Do you respond to conversations? Are your “likes” valuable and profitable to your brand, or are they just statistics? Numbers do say a lot, but don’t always influence the audience as directly as your content can. While the quality is crucial, the quantity of “likes” may possibly affect your image. Less than a hundred “likes” may create an impression that you aren’t really serious about your online exposure. Less than thirty gains you no online exposure. To achieve audience respectability, a brand should have around a thousand “likes”. It is the quad-digits that seem to have the most influence on a general audience, and are more likely to gain additional likes for simply being the “trend” at the moment. In conclusion, when it comes down to Facebook “likes,” it is always better to consider the difference between quantity and quality. Gathering these “likes” because your content is shareable is most effective because it reflects your true standing with the audience. It is best to keep in mind that you should never have a minimum amount of target “likes.” Trying to gain Facebook “likes” is an ongoing process that you must constantly work at. The more you do, the more your content will be shared and the more likely it is that you are to get more “likes.” Author: Maria Elena Duron, is managing editor of the Personal Branding Blog, CEO (chief engagement officer) of  buzz2bucks.com  â€"  a word of mouth marketing firm, and a professional speaker and trainer on developing social networks that work. 7 Reasons to Work in Construction and One Reason Not To CareerMetis.com

7 Reasons to Work in Construction and One Reason Not To Source â€" Unsplash.comImagine going to a job every morning where you get to work along with your friends, use your skills to create something brand new and use your mind and experience to solve complex challenges. A job in construction can be personally beneficial as well as financially lucrative, giving you a well-rounded career with the opportunity for growth. Thanks to a growing industry and a need for more construction workers, the job outlooklooks great.7 Reasons to Work in ConstructionThink that a career in construction may be right for you? From the benefits of working with a close-knit team to the potential benefits of improving the community or even traveling, construction jobscome with a lot of perks. Here are seven reasons to consider getting a job in construction:1) Construction Isn’t Just One Type of JobevalWhen you think of construction, you may picture people in hardhats constructing a building. Within the field of construction are a number of specialties, though, a nd you can choose one that’s suited to your skills, interests, or both. For example, carpenters handle cutting and shaping materials to build and install them.evalConstruction electricians install wiring when a building is first constructed. Masons are the people who build the construction by working with blocks, brick, or marble. You can even be a construction supervisor â€" which is predicted to be one of the top jobsthrough the year 2026. The job you choose may depend on the skills you already have or the ones you’re most interesting in learning.2) You’ll Be Part of a TeamIn construction, excellence depends on the team more than the individual. If you’re the type of worker who thrives in a team setting and loves collaborative projects, construction will give you what you’re looking for. In addition to working toward the same on-the-job goal, you could build relationships and bond with your co-workers.Plus, you’ll be working alongside other professionals and you’ll l ikely learn from one another. When the project is complete, you’ll have a physical representation of your combined efforts.3) No Two Days Are the SameIf you can’t stand the thought of sitting in an office five days a week, construction is an excellent way to ensure every day is a little bit different â€" or a lot different. The point of construction projects is to move the project along; as you and the team are making progress, the work you’re doing will also change and evolve. This is also good news for people who like to think on their feet and quickly adapt.By the end of the day, you could be on to a completely different task than what you started on. For those in management positions, there’s also the added responsibility of staying on top of industry trends and regulation changes.4) You’ll Be on a Non-Traditional Work ScheduleIf a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule has never seemed to fit with your natural, daily rhythms, a job in construction may be a better-fitting alternati ve. Construction workers tend to start work very early in the morning, maybe even before the sun comes up.Early birds will love getting up and getting to work when their energy is high. Plus, a major benefit of starting work early is finishing early, too. You’ll be off work well before most other people, which means you can avoid rush hour, run errands when everyone’s still at work and take advantage of a few more hours of daylight.eval5) You May Have the Opportunity to Contribute to SocietyevalBy researching construction companies before applying for a job, you can find ones that share your values. A number of construction companies are using their skilled teams to give back to society. For example, the Boston-based Consigli Construction Company has been involved with the Boston Cares Bed Project, which builds beds for local children in need.Skanska, one of the largest construction companies in the world, has a number of “giving back” initiatives, including participation wi th area food banks and park cleanup.6) You May Get to TravelNew structures are going up all the time, which means skilled construction workers are needed everywhere. If you’re interested in finding a job that also lets you travel, construction may be a great option. The larger the company or the wider their reach, the more opportunity there will be to travel for work. You may be able to travel around the country or even internationally. In addition to seeing other parts of the world, you’ll also know that you made an impact beyond your hometown.7) You’ll Be Motivated to Stay in ShapeevalConstruction work requires a lot of physical stamina and strength. If you’re not the type of person who wants to hit up the gym every day, a construction job can provide the same sort of physical training without the actual weights. You’ll also be motivated to stay healthy and in shape, as you’ll see how much better you perform at work when you’re fit and energetic. The stronger you are, the safer you’ll be, too, as you’ll avoid issues that come with losing your balance or straining your muscles. One Important Consideration: SafetyConstruction accidentsare the leading cause of on-the-job accidents and deaths. If you’re interested in a career in construction or you’re wondering if you want to stay on this career path, it’s important to consider the safety statistics:In 2017, there were 4,675 private industry worker fatalities; almost 21 percentof them were in construction. (Note that private industry or private sector refers to non-government jobs.)Not including highway collisions, the leading causes of deathfor workers in the private sector were falls, being struck by an object, electrocution, and “being caught.” The caught-in or caught-between category includes deaths due to being compressed by an object or equipment, or being caught, struck or crushed by a collapsing piece of equipment or structure. These “Fatal Four” accidents caused almost 60 per cent of construction worker deaths in 2017.If you’re still interested in a job in construction, the solution may be to take the time to find a reputable company to work for. Companies that follow OSHA guidelineshave a better chance of keeping their employees safe. These guidelines include processes for fall protection, hazard communication and up-to-date electrical methods. Construction companies should also carry Workers’ Compensation insurance, so in the unfortunate case that an injury does happen, you will still be taken care of.How to Work Your Way Up in the Construction IndustryIn order to find the best and highest-paying construction jobs, especially if you want to work your way up the ladder, consider attending a trade school. These schools differ from regular colleges and universities in that the coursework is specific to one career and the programs are usually shorter than a traditional four-year program. In additional to a traditional classroom experience, like lecture s, trade schools also offer hands-on training. The program will prepare you to take certification and licensing exams in order to get a job in your field. If you want to work your way up in the construction field, you could be handsomely rewarded â€" construction managers make an average of more than $90k per year. The best-paid managers make as much as six figures. Location may play a role in income â€" the highest-paying states for construction managers are Alaska, California, Georgia, New Jersey and New York.Becoming a construction manager requires more than on-the-job construction knowledge. Most managers have a background in both contracting and construction, but they also possess necessary leadership skills. For example, they’ll have strengths when it comes to communication, organization, scheduling and problem-resolution. Managers will also have to be experts in compliance, as part of their job is to review projects to ensure they’re following building and safety regulatio ns.Even if you’ve never considered a career in constructionbefore, it’s well worth exploring. There are so many aspects to construction jobs that people don’t know about. Instead of assuming you’re not cut out for a construction job, try listing the elements you’d love to get out of a career, then compare them to what different types of construction jobs offer. You may discover that this profession checks all the boxes.
